Wpd Finland Oy, Palovaara-Ahkiovaara

Project Description

The project covers two sub-areas, Ahkiovaara and Palovaara. The wind farm consists of a maximum of 26 wind turbines with a unit power of approximately 3-5 MW. The wind farm consists of wind turbines including foundations, underground cables that connect the wind turbines to each other, an electrical station, an overhead line needed for connection to the electricity grid and roads between the wind turbines. Planning on Palovaara has progressed after the draft phase. The plan covers a maximum of 17 wind turbines. The planning area for Palovaara wind farm is located approximately 24 km south of Pello municipal center at the border with Ylitornio municipality and as close as 7.7 km east of Torneälv and Sweden's state border. The area of the planning area is approximately 12.4 km2 and is owned by private individuals and local forest communities. The planned wind turbines have a tower height of 120–160 meters and the length of the rotor blades is 50–70 meters. The total height is no more than 230 meters. The unit power is 3–5 MW (megawatts). The project is in the second phase: the environmental impact assessment and the plan are complete. MKB was completed in December 2015 and Pello City Council has approved the plan for the wind farm with 17 power plants on October 3, 2016.
