New airport in Lofoten

Project Description

State-owned airport company Avinor announced the construction of a new airport in the small town of Leknes. As NRK radio reports, it will replace the existing airport in Leknes and the similarly sized airport in the town of Svolvær, some 40 kilometres away. That will allow the operation of short- and medium-haul jets such as Airbus A320 or Boeing 737. Leknes new airport will also be able to handle with more passengers to and from Lofoten. Avinor estimates that the new airport will cope with up to 330,000 passengers per year. Project planners expect up to three daily flights to Oslo, NRK continues. The airport is scheduled to open in 2026. It is not yet clear when construction work will commence.
