Kugluktuk Hybrid Solar/Diesel Project

Nunavut's first hybrid energy system. The current plan calls for the replacement of Kugluktuk's fifty-year old existing diesel power plant with a new 2.6 MW solar-diesel hybrid system, including an entirely new structure, heating and cooling system, fuel supply system, storage area, and waste management area. Additionally, the project will install four new, energy-efficient power generators and integrate a 500 KW solar energy and battery storage system. The project has already secured $20.50 million from the Government of Canada and $7.84 million from Qulliq Energy Corporation. Completion expected in 2023.
