Anglo American /AA Sakatti Oy, Sakatti nickel mine and smelter

Project Description

The first findings of the Sakatti mineralisation were discovered in 2006, before the actual deposit was discovered in 2009. The Sakatti deposit is located 15 kilometers north of Sodankylä, and the area is partly located in Viiankiaapa, a protected mire and a Natura 2000 designated area. Sakatti is a rich multi-metal deposit with excellent exploration potential for metals of the future. In addition to important base metals such as copper, nickel and cobalt, the deposit also contains platinum, palladium, gold and silver. High concentrations of metal combined with consistency of the mineralisation between the boreholes make Sakatti an unique deposit. It is in the environmental impact assesment phase.
